engagement pics! [13 Aug 2008|08:08pm]
Go here to see our engagement pics :)

[02 Jul 2008|07:08am]
[ mood | thoughtful ]

so a lot of wedding updates. i'm finally getting on the ball with the planning, which is a good thing considering we only have 2 1/2 months left! over the weekend i took melanie (my maid of honor) out and picked out her dress. we ended up getting the same one for the bridesmaid too. i wanted them to have different dresses but in that particular color they didn't have another dress that i liked. they'll just have to have different bouquets or something...

adam still needs to pick his best man and groomsman so we can go rent the suits/tuxs. i'm getting kind of antsy about that because i don't know who he will pick. oh well, as long as he's happy i'm happy.

i went to waterside with my mom to talk to the man who is making my wedding band. after about 2 1/2 hours i finally picked out the setting. it was hard to find b/c we had to look for bands that would hold four 1/4 carat diamonds. most of them hold either 3 or 5. but eventually we found one. turns out they are out of stock so they actually have to make the setting. but once its i get to go check it out and make sure it will fit behind my engagement ring.

adam and i went to the mall to try and find his wedding band but we had no luck. we at least got him sized and figured out how wide of a band looks good on him. we ended up buying it online when we got home. i hope it fits and he likes it!

on a funny note, i got the invitations in the mail and they were printed upside down. haha. i could have mailed them out and no one would have known but since it wasn't what i wanted i called them and they are mailing out new ones now. so i figure i can cut the writing off of the old ones and use that for inserts in the invites to put our registry info and info about the hotel the wedding is at.

sooo that was a long entry but i haven't written in quite a while so its ok!

Writer's Block: Where your memories began. [02 Jul 2008|07:00am]
[ mood | working ]

What is your earliest memory of your life?

The first thing I remember is being on a ferry with my mom and dad. I'm not sure if I REALLY remember or if I just think I do because I saw a picture. I'm almost positive that I actually do remember it though. I remember being in the car in the car seat and looking around at the birds and the water. Then I remember sitting in the car for a few while the boat took off. There is a picture of my parents holding me on the boat. Not sure why I think that is my first memory. A lot of my early memories involve boats though. There were so many boat pictures around my house so that probably has stuck in my head...I also have a lot of vivid memories of dance. Namely when we were jumping across hula hoops on the floor when I was two and this girl peed all over the floor in the middle of class. Haha. This was back when they let two year olds dance. I don't think they let them anymore. I also remember watching my first recital video on TV and thinking I was famous. I wore that video out!

Writer's Block: Goblin for a day, or: Improvised Parenting!!?! [05 Jun 2008|01:40pm]
[ mood | content ]

Let's say you're a hobgoblin for 24 hours. What sort of havoc would you wreak? Or: If a baby of unknown origins suddenly fell into your care, would you keep it? What would you name it?

If a baby of unknown origins suddenly fell into my care, I think I actually would keep it. I would feel obligated to a point to make sure that nothing happened to it since I had somehow become responsible for it. I think I would name it Taylor (boy or girl either way). Lately I've loved that name. If it was a girl its middle name would be Ambrose (my maternal grandmother's maiden name) and if it was a boy its middle name would be Corwin (my dad's middle name).
Adam and I have been thinking about having a child sooner than we originally planned. I'd rather have my own kid instead of just having one pop up out of nowhere, but hey, some people can't even have children so whatever works! It took my parents almost 7 years to be able to have me so I'm not even sure I will be able to have children anyways. Although as my mom says I'm so much like the Foster side of the family that if you sneeze on me I'll get pregnant. Not really sure how the Massie side of the family is with that but I doubt it'll be a problem. We want to be married for a least a year first and I'd like to get part way into my PhD prorgram...we'll see!!

Writer's Block: Saturday Night [07 Apr 2008|10:21am]
[ mood | horny ]

How are your Saturday nights different now than they were five years ago?

Let's see, 5 years ago would have been 2003 which means I was a freshman in college. If I was up at school for the weekend Saturday nights were spent venturing out on the Harrisonburg bus to eat off campus food, going to Grafton Stovall to watch a movie on campus, staying up until all hours of the night talking to my roommate and doing laundry at 3am. Playing pranks on people, but those are a secret that will remain secret, haha. If I was at home, Adam and I were probably just chilling out. If it was during the summer we were most likely hanging out at Scott's house doing nothing, or at the bowling alley.
Now, my Saturday nights are normally spent vegging out at home because I'm so worn out from the busy week. Sometimes Adam and I will go out and see a movie or go out to a bar depending on who's doing what. We'll normally play some Wii and maybe order a pizza. Still fun but it was definitely more interesting 5 years ago!

Writer's Block: What? Everyone Doesn't Like Me? [25 Mar 2008|09:06am]
[ mood | hungry ]

Why do you think it is some people don't get along with you?

Well I think some people don't get along with me because I have a tendency to be really honest, sometimes a little TOO honest. A lot of people think that I'm being mean, but really I just don't like sugar coating stuff for people. I also have a tendency to just say what I'm thinking regardless of if it might hurt someone's feelings even though I don't intentionally want to hurt anyone. Girls don't like me a lot of times because their boyfriends tend to think of me as their best girl friend and they don't understand why they get along so well with me.
A lot of people also don't like me because they think I'm a know it all. Which I sort of am, but only because I know a lot of random things and have been in school for my entire life. I would hope that I know a great deal by now.
I think once people really get to know me, they understand that I have a different sense of humor and that I'm not really being pessimistic, I'm just being realistic when no one else wants to admit that stuff sucks sometimes. But all in all, I think most people like me. I'll pretend that I don't care if they don't!

[21 Mar 2008|11:27am]
[ mood | content ]

well my thesis is finished (the writing of it at least). i had to turn it in to the graduate program director for her to check over and she only had two small formatting things for me to fix. not too bad, i was expecting more honestly. today it went to the margin nazis to measure all of my margins, check all of my spacing, what have you. then they give it back to me and we go back and forth until its perfect. once its perfect i have to print out 10 copies (which sucks cuz its 64 pages) and go get them bound. don't know how much that's going to set me back but hopefully not TOO much. i'm broke! its weird that i'm graduating soon for the third and possibly final time. class of '02, '06, and '08. WEIRD. i've been in school for 21 years out of my 24. i dunno if i'll know that to do once i'm out. but we'll see!

[11 Mar 2008|07:58am]
[ mood | bored ]

well i'm sitting here at work and instead of doing what my job is SUPPOSED to be, i'm recording a web call. they just made a brand new web team but didn't bother to make any of their schedules earlier so i got stuck having to do it...it's two hours long too. fun!
on a good note, i finished my thesis. my chair read it and said he is "favorably impressed" and just gave me some little stylistic, cosmetic changes to make. hopefully the member of my committee who is big on statistics thinks what i did was ok. it ended up being like 47 pages and once i add table of contents, abstract and references it will be like 50 something. not too bad considering i didn't really spend as much time on it as i could have. towards the end i just got SO over it. i have to defend sometime this week even though its spring break and i have to hand the final printed manuscript into the graduate program director by the 18th or 19th and it has to be into the dean's office by the 21st. apparently they ALWAYS find little issues with it so i'll get it back when they are done, fix them, and turn it back in a week before classes is over. i have to make like 10 copies of it, half for ODU and half for NSU. it will be weird having a bound book with my name on it in the library at ODU and NSU, hopefully no one actually reads it though, haha!
on another note, adam just got back from costa rica. he was gone from friday the 7th and i picked him up late sunday night. we didn't get back home until 4am and we slept until after noon. it's so good to have him home. apparently he told the boys that that was the last time he'd be going alone on a trip like that. i don't know if he's just doing it because i was so scared being alone in the house or he just realizes it would be better if i was there with him. but either way, works for me. i hated being without him all that time. BUT he's home now and our next vacation will be our honeymoon! how crazy is that??
speaking of weddings, i've got the photographer and the location booked. i've got a little over 5 months to get everything under control. i'm pretty sure i have the maid of honor and bridesmaid dresses picked out so we just have to get melanie and danielle fitted for them and we'll be all set to go with that. adam still needs to decide who is best man is going to be and also his groomsman. i think he should just choose his two brothers so that he doesn't make any of his friends mad, but it's his choice what he wants to do. he just better do it soon so we can get their suits picked out! we have to talk to my old dance teacher's boyfriend to see if he'll be able to mc/dj for us. i've got the favors and invites picked out too. it's all coming together and once i've got my thesis totally done i'll be able to focus on the wedding totally and not stress as much about it.
anyways, guess i'll pay attention to this call now, even though i might fall asleep because it is SO boring. i will update again, hopefully soon!

Writer's Block: All in the Family [07 Mar 2008|02:13pm]
How do you think having siblings (or not having siblings) affects who you are as a person?

honestly, if my parents had more than one child, my life would have been a loooootttt different. i wouldn't have been able to do dance (because it's so expensive) which would have been a huge change. that made me a really dedicated person and i'm proud of that. i stuck with it from the time i was 2 until i went to college and i can't wait until i'm done with grad school so i can go back.
also, when i look at my friends who have brothers and sisters, they don't seem to be any happier than i am. and when you get older it seems like its just so more family to fight with over silly things like wills and money. it might have been nice to have someone to hang out with when i was little i guess?
i'm marrying someone who has two brothers, a sister, a stepbrother and a stepsister and they are all great. so basically, i'm getting the siblings i never had. especially the sisters. it all works out in the end!

i'm lonely [02 Mar 2008|01:43pm]
[ mood | lonely ]

so while i'm sitting in a cold house thinking of what to eat for lunch cuz i'm too lazy to go get anything and the house is empty...adam is probably basking in the tropical sun and catching killer waves. i'm stoked for him, but i wish i could be there. oh the joys of choosing a surfer as your soon to be husband, haha. i told him next year your WIFE will be accompanying you to costa, whether the boys like it or not! after him going 4 times without me i don't see the big deal. plus i need a tan! and hey, maybe i could actually learn to surf? i'll just get someone other than adam to teach me, we aren't good at teaching people stuff, too impatient. anyways, just figured i would share, hope everyone is doing well!

So apparently, I have no life...But I think most everyone I know has seen most of these movies...

hey all [25 Jun 2007|02:37pm]
Hey all,
It has been a while since I've updated this thing. Prolly about a month or so. A few major things have happened since then. Adam and I decided to buy a house because we found this cute, brick, 3 bedroom 1 bath house on a cul-de-sac in a nice neighborhood. It just seemed to make sense to pay money towards something instead of wasting it on rent. We closed our loan on the 21st which went really smooth because apparently Adam and I both have such awesome credit. We only had to spend about $3000 out of pocket for the house and the rest we were able to finance through VHDA's program for first time home buyers with low-moderate income. We have a lot of work to do but are really excited we have a real place to call home with our kitty Dillon and our new kitty addition who will be moving with us shortly (we aren't sure of his name yet but he is a cute little solid grey kitty). My friend Becca from schools uncle's cat had kittens and they only had a few more that needed to be adopted. Any ideas on a name are much appreciated!
In other news, Adam got a promotion at work. $3.50 raise which makes about $5 worth of raises in the past few months. He is now the Meat Market Manager of the busiest meat department in Norfolk. This couldn't have come at a better time. Yay for Adam!
I will converting to be a real BT employee soon instead of a contractor. Probably won't be much of a raise (if one at all since I'm going to have to pay for benefits now) but the vacation and holiday pay, plus tuition reimbursement seem to be worth it.
Ok well, I'm at work so I better get back to it. I'll post pics of the house as we do the renovations. Later all!

so i haven't written in this thing since november,,,i'm so bad about updating. i can't really remember much that has happened since then, christmas was fun, waking up in adam's and my own place was strange cuz i've been waking up at my house with my parents for 22 years. but it was nice, we just woke up when we felt like it, listened to some jack johnson, danced to jack johnson in the kitchen in our pj's while we made breakfast and then opened our little presents to each other. i got a solar charger for my ipod which is sweet and i got him a 1gb flash drive shaped like a surfboard. i also got adam a new dvd home theater system which i guess is a gift for both of us. and for another joint christmas gift/anniversary present, we booked a trip to myrtle beach.

for our 5th anniversary (january 13th), we took a trip down to myrtle beach, the weather was PERFECT! we stayed fri, sat and sun night. friday night we went to eat at margaritaville which was a lot of fun. our anniversary was saturday, we basically just chilled out and adam did a bit of surfing. we went out to this place called flamingo grill which was really really good, we'll have to remember it the next time we go back. on sunday we just chilled out again and did nothing. we decided to go for a walk on the beach after it got dark and we walked for almost an hour it seemed like.

then we decided to head back to the hotel but adam was like i have something i want you to wear first and pulled out a ring box! he just said he had been thinking a loootttt about it and he just saw himself with me and asked me to marry him. i was so excited and happy. we went to dinner at bonefish grill which is our new restaurant now, it is so yummy. it used to be ruby tuesday since that is where we went to dinner on our first "date" so long ago. on monday morning we got up and went to the alligator adventure museum. really neat place. then we headed home. i couldn't have asked for a better anniversary weekend.

time flew by after that and it was valentine's day (which meant we had been engaged for a month, so it was special for two reasons). we went to bonefish grill and it was just as good as it was the first time.

nothing much really has happened since then, we did set a tentative wedding date of september 13th 2008. i graduate with my masters in may 2008 so we just wanted to wait until after then.

i'll update this thing again eventually :)

so bored [22 Nov 2006|01:47pm]
[ mood | bored ]

I am sitting at work and it is so boring...Apparently no one holds conference calls the day before Thanksgiving except for some Canadian's and international people. So I've done two calls the entire day and don't have one until 2pm (that I have everyday and it only lasts 5 minutes). I'm working tomorrow and there are only 5 calls for the whole day, pretty funny. Glad I'm taking Friday off though. Too much boredom for one week.

None of my work friends are online cuz they all took off a half day today and my friend from one of my conferences is too busy to email. Sheesh people! I need some entertainment here...

Anyways, Thanksgiving dinner at my parents tonight, Adam's dads' tomorrow and Adam's moms' on Friday. I'm not gonna be able to fit through the door at work on Monday, haha.

Since investor relations season is over until the 22nd of January I'll prolly be updating this thing more, not that there is much to tell anyways!

[ mood | busy ]

so i haven't written in this thing since october 17th 2005 and a lot has happened since then...

on the last day of december my grandmother passed after having alzheimers for over a decade, it was a really tough time for our family but we made it through and it seems as if it has brought us closer (for the time being at least)...

in january i started my last semester as a student at jmu and looking back on it, i wish i had taken advantage of it more instead of just wishing it would go by quicker so i could get home to be with my family and adam.

february was pretty uneventful except for adam's birthday and valentine's day.

march was the polar opposite and was a very exciting month. to start off the month was spring break and adam and i took a cruise from norfolk to the southern caribbean. 11 days of pure relaxation and beautiful scenery. we left from norfolk on march 3rd, sailed to half moon cay, bahamas (holland america's private island), st thomas, dominica, st kitts, barbados and san juan, puerto rico, then back to norfolk on march 14th. i definitely did not want to come home because we did so many exciting things. i even got to see someone i used to dance with because she was a dancer on the ship. i felt special that i knew someone on there :) the entertainment and food was AMAZING. i am surprised i didn't come home weighing a million pounds. just to summarize some of the things we did: swimming with stingrays, helmet dive, river tubing (or getting stuck on rocks like i was doing the whole time!), scenic railway (around the whole island of st kitts), and then touring the bacardi distillery. i can't wait to do something like it again!
towards the end of march a few of my friends from the sociology club and i decided to drive down to new orleans for the southern sociological society annual meeting. after many many interesting stories and conversations and 15 hours of being in the car we finally arrived in new orleans...although i hadn't been there before, i could tell that it was not how it used to be. we didn't get to spend much time there but the conference was very interesting and what we got to see of the city really hit home to someone who lives where they could find themselves in the same devastating situation. i didn't take pictures because i felt like it was inappropriate to be taking pictures of peoples misery. but just know, it wasn't like they showed on the news, it was 100% times worse than you could ever imagine, and keep in mind, this is 6 months later...very sad situation that really makes you angry at the people in charge.

april was uneventful as well except for turning 22,,,which felt strange to me...

then came the big day on may 6th when i graduated from jmu!! i think at the moment i walked across the stage and knew that i made it after all that i had gone through and even made it on time was one of the most proud moments of my life. actually the proudest, and i'm sure for my parents. i was very very genuinely happy but at the same time genuinely sad that that chapter of my life was over.
but when one door closes another one opens. i recently began a job at bt conferencing in chesapeake and also got an apartment with adam. things are great and i actually feel like a grown up..well more than i already did. i actually have to start answering for the ford sales call now...ford is just one of the big companies that we do conferences for. maybe i'll update again in the next month or so, haha!
